Rattlesnake Plants
Rattlesnake Plants (Prayer Plant) belong to the genus Geoppertia and the botanical family Marantaceae. These perennial plants are native to Rio de Janeiro State in Brazil. The plant grows best in deep shade and indirect sunlight and well-drained soil. The flowers are tubular-shaped, old-yellow in color, and have bracts. The fruit type is a capsule.
One of the characteristic features of this plant is that its leaves fold at night and unfold in the morning. Rattlesnake plant’s sap acts as a preventative against snakebite. The roots are diuretic.
