Bee Orchid Flowers
Scientifically known as Ophrys apifera, the bee orchid is one of the most unique flowers native to the UK. The flowers resemble a real bee resting on the petals, which adds both to their unique appearance and pollinating ability. While majorly visited by beneficial insects, these flowers can pollinate on their own as well.
The Mediterranean region is the best place to grow these perennial flowers with partial sun to shade, humus-rich soil and frequent watering every 1-2 weeks, as they can be a little tricky to maintain.
Lastly, the bee orchid flower is a wildflower protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981, in the UK.
