Blackthorn Flowers

Botanically known as Prunus spinosa, the blackthorn is an early spring flower that belongs to the Rosaceae family and is often confused with hawthorn flowers. Native to Europe and Western Asia, these deciduous shrubs grow up to 15 feet tall and feature spiny black branches and white flowers that appear before the leaves.

Another striking feature about these flowering trees is the sloe berries, which have a sour taste and are used to make jams and jellies. These white flowers are also safe for consumption in moderate amounts and are associated with the ideas of resilience and protection.
