Orangery Garden

Traditionally, an orangery garden is a large glass building made to protect orange trees during harsh winter months. The concept was started by wealthy European landowners as a status symbol in the 17th Century. It was a tradition to keep the citrus trees alive. During warm weather conditions, these trees were moved back outside. These were often planted in decorative containers or tubs. Traditional orangeries were strictly used as greenhouses, but today they are built as a home extension or sunroom.
