Tea Plant
Tea plant (Assam Tea) is a small tree that belongs to the genus Camellia and the botanical family Theaceae. These evergreen shrubs are native to South-Central China and Southeast China. The plant is 6-15 ft tall and grows best in bright sunlight and well-drained acidic soil. The flowers are pink-white with 7-20 petals and a strong fragrance. The fruit is a brown capsule.
The Tea leaves are dried to make tea, and edible oil is extracted from the flowers. They are a rich source of bioactive and phenolic compounds. Tea extracts are widely used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries.
