Watercress Plant
Watercress plant ‘poor man’s bread’ is a semi-aquatic plant in the Brassicaceae family and the genus Nasturtium. These perennial plants are native to Northern Europe, Central Asia, and Northern Africa. It grows best in slightly alkaline soil and near lakes or slow-running water. The plant grows up to 100 cm in length, and flowers grow in a raceme.
These plants are cultivated as green leafy vegetables. It has also been used in medicine to treat arthritis, asthma, cough, and stomach issues. Watercress is rich in vitamins and minerals and is a good source of carotenoids.
