Zen Garden

A zen garden, known as karesansui, is a landscape where rocks, gravel, or moss are arranged to create a mini replica of nature for relaxation and meditation. The most famous example of this type is Ryoan-ji in Kyoto. Simplicity is the core philosophy that this garden type follows. Symbolizing nature, zen gardens help relieve stress, promote mindfulness, and aid in meditation. Though philosophical, these landscapes are often mistaken for being religious.
